The Sydney PDF team invites you to an intimate fireside chat with one of Australia’s most distinguished public servants. Roger Wilkins AO had a stellar career that saw him lead the Attorney Generals Dept, the NSW Cabinet Office as well as a stint in the private sector with Citibank.
We will explore the secrets to his longevity and success in a career that spans successive governments of different persuasions, how he found the courage to give frank and fearless advice to the likes of Bob Carr, Nick Greiner, Robert McClelland and George Brandis.
Roger will share with us his war stories, how he managed to maintain his integrity during the challenging times. He will also share with us his advice to young professionals coming up the ranks of corporations and public serivce.
The proceeds from this session will go to the charity of Roger’s choice – Australian Red Cross

Roger was President of the Financial Action Taskforce from 2014 to 2015 and Vice-President from 2013 to 2014. The Financial Action Taskforce is the international standard stetter for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other related threats to the integrity of the international financial system, and its guidance is fundamental to all Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations around the world which pretty much all banks and financial institutions in the global financial system must comply with
Roger was the Secretary of the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, a position he held from September 2008 to August 2014. The Attorney-General’s Department is the policy setter for Australia’s law and justice framework. Its portfolio agencies span across legal, criminal, national security, and enforcement including High Court of Australia, AFP, AUSTRAC, and ASIO which is the Australian equivalent of FBI and CIA. It is also responsible for Emergency Management at the national level.
He was Head of Government and Public Sector Group Australia and New Zealand with Citi and was Citi’s global public sector leader on climate change from 2006-2008.
From 1992-2006 Roger was the Director-General of the Cabinet Office in New South Wales where he played a leading role in areas of reform in administration and law, corporatisation and microeconomic reform. The Cabinet Office in New South Wales was responsible for coordination policy across NSW government and for critical initiatives for government.
He is member of the Board of the Forum of Federations and advises on different federal systems especially on fiscal issues. He is also a member of the Governing Council on UNIDROIT which deals with issues of private international law.
He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2007 and is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management
Roger is currently a senior advisor to Norton Rose Fulbright, an international law firm.
